Bird Rock Elementary to celebrate 'Distinguished' status

Bird Rock Elementary School will celebrate its designation as a State of California "Distinguished School" May 27th during an open house at the school at 5371 La Jolla Hermosa Ave. starting at 5:30 p.m.
It is the school's way of thanking and honoring neighborhood residents and local merchants for contributing to the school through fundraisers such as Taste of Bird Rock and other activities that have aided the school in building its solid academic reputation.
Festivities will start out in the auditorium where guests will sit on new chairs provided by proceeds from the Bird Rock Community Council (BRCC) home tour.
Afterward, all classrooms, including the Science Lab, Art Room, Library and Computer Lab, will be open for touring. Other events will include an art walk and celebratory popsicles in the lunch arbor.

Be a part of the La Jolla Wine & Food Festival!

Many volunteer opportunities still available. Meeting tomorrow:

La Jolla Public Library

Seminar Room

7555 Draper

Friday, May 21 - 9:30am

The festival features various artists, live music, gourmet food and hosts a wine and beer garden featuring local wineries and breweries. The event donates all proceeds to key programs at three area public schools: La Jolla, Torrey Pines, and Bird Rock Elementary. These commonly underfunded programs include art, music, science, physical education, technology, and on-site medical care by a school nurse. All three beneficiaries are part of the financially troubled San Diego Unified School District.

Where you go for Sushi in Bird Rock

Station Sushi in Bird Rock offers an upbeat fun atmosphere, as well as creative rolls and a bar for cocktails. We live nearby and walk to this place often. We are fortunate there are many excellent Sushi restaurants in La Jolla and Station Sushi is definately a standout.
The owner Kevin, is always onsite and focused on making sure customers are happy and content. In addition to sushi they offer grilled specials and noodles. We've tried most of the specialty rolls on the menu and every one is delicious. The Protein roll is also wonderful for those looking for a low carb option. Another feature we appreciate since it's hard for kids to sit still is the outdoor patio. Station Sushi  is located at 5752 La Jolla Blvd (between Bird Rock Ave & Camino De La Costa)

If your heading to La Jolla Village I recommend Zenbu Sushi.
