Surfers Healing a Surf Camp for Children with Autism

If you are a parent of a child on the Autism spectrum you know how challenging it can be to do “the simple things”. The things that others take for granted, like going to the grocery store or out to dinner. The thought of a family vacation or even a family day at the beach often seem out of reach.
Surfers Healing was founded by Israel and Danielle Paskowitz. Their son, Isaiah, was diagnosed with autism at age three. Like many autistic children, he often suffered from sensory overload– simple sensations could overwhelm him. The ocean was the one place where he seemed to find respite. A former competitive surfer, Israel hit upon an idea–with Isaiah on the front of his surfboard, and Izzy steering from the back, the two spent the day surfing together. Surfing had a profound impact on Isaiah. Israel and Danielle decided they wanted to share this unique therapy with other autistic children. They began to host day camps at the beach where autistic children and their families could be exposed to a completely new experience of surfing.
The Camps are FREE. The only way they are able to do this is by the generosity of others. Their goal is simple, to increase the number of camps  every year. More funding will help accomplish this.
Most visible expenses are wetsuits, surfboards, rash guards, life vests and other equipment that must be replaced every season. Food and drinks are provided to the kids and their families. Beach permits, insurance, and administration are other equally important if less visible expenses that’s incurred.
How you can help: Please make a tax-deductible donation. To give you an idea of the costs involved it takes approximately $75.00 to completely sponsor a child. This money covers insurance, beach permits, equipment upkeep and maintenance, lunch for the child and his family. So therefore $25.00 dollar donation would cover a third of 1 child’s day at the camp.
