Locally owned, The Honest Kitchen Pet Food

The Honest Kitchen was founded by Bird Rock Residents, Lucy & Charlie Postins. Located in the East Village near Downtown San Diego. They are a premium pet food company that gives a different meaning to natural, holistic pet food products. I was surprised to learn, human beings actually taste each batch of pet food and cookies during the company’s pet food QC process, and it’s that wholesome. The company began as the result of a search for a solution: Kibble and canned foods are not so healthy, raw is messy and expensive. So they developed a food that would offer the convenience of the former, with the health benefits of the latter. Dehydrated food was The Honest Kitchen's answer. Has the time has come for La Jolla to become its own city?

The next meeting of Independent La Jolla promoting cityhood will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 17 at Riford Library, 7555 Draper Ave. Independent La Jolla, a registered public advocacy nonprofit, a 501(c)4, formed with more than 100 people signed up to promote cityhood. The group is in the process of forming a governing board. The community has three primary choices regarding how to attempt to incorporate:

- Go to Sacramento and try to change the law governing requirements placed on a seceding city, which include paying the city alimony outright in advance to leave.
- Get it on a ballot requiring a simple majority (50 percent plus one) of the residents within the new city's boundaries as well as the rest of the city of San Diego for passage.
- File a lawsuit challenging state law.

The most beautiful Valentine's Day card arrived today from Bird Rock's Studio M Photography

The hours I spend with you I look upon as sort of a perfumed garden, a dim twilight, and a fountain singing to it. You and you alone make me feel that I am alive. Other men it is said have seen angels, but I have seen thee and thou art enough. ~George Moore

Is the Taste of Bird Rock event too successful?

The Taste of Bird Rock has become so successful that the Bird Rock Community Council (BRCC) is considering suspending the fund-raiser this year in an effort to tone down the party. “The good news is that the Taste of Bird Rock is wildly successful,” said BRCC President Joe Parker at the group’s Feb. 2 meeting. “The bad news is that it is wildly successful.”
This neighborhood party is family oriented and offers many fun-filled activities. At this fundraising event, attendees have enjoyed various bands as they stroll La Jolla Boulevard sampling food specialties from nearby restaurants and receiving discounts to local merchants.
Police have taken note of the increased foot traffic and drinking, and informed the BRCC that it needs to step up its security and traffic control, measures that would also spike the costs to run the event, Parker said.
“The goal is to interface residents with merchants and to raise funds,” Parker said. “When you have to fence off areas, the costs escalate and it becomes counterproductive.”
The Taste of Bird Rock, typically held in July, started in 2002 to promote area restaurants and continued as a fund-raiser for Bird Rock Elementary School.

For Eco-Friendly Auto Washing and Detailing, try La Jolla's CARBONita Detail

Here in La Jolla, we’ve got to be smart about the water we use. This means we tend to make sacrifices for the ways we use our water. Majority of the time, washing our cars rarely happens because of the amount of water required to clean them. Getting you car cleaned only requires about a pint of water! Touting as Southern California’s environmentally friendly automotive detail company, CARBONita Detail is not only a values water conservation, they also use biodegradable and VOC compliant products, which help to reduce some of the most harmful effects on our environment. I had the opportunity to try out their services last week courtesy of Bryce Lindhardt, the owner of CARBONita Detail. Having a car that transports kids, dog & equipment I was a impressed how clean they were able to get my car and very pleased! In fact, it looks new again. I loved the fact that that their team comes to you. Right to your home or office, wherever you’re are located that day. You can go about your business and they’ll call you when your car is ready. I also got a kick out of seeing they send out their auto reconditioning experts in, none other than, a Smart Car (This company takes “green” to another level). Once they arrived I could tell right away these experts are specially trained in making sure the cars they detail come out looking their best. They will ask you for feedback and if you have an area you want focused on they are more than happy to oblige (mine was stained carpet). Now, there is no need to worry about having your car detailed at home. No water ever reaches the driveway or gutter, which can sometimes set your neighbors off in a panic. Just in case you haven’t figured out the best secret about this company, their mission statement is written in their name, CARBONita literally means: “beautiful car” and “small carbon”. This company truly is one of San Diego’s best kept secret. For more information about CARBONita Detail http://www.carbonitadetail.com/
